Intergenerational working is when people from different age groups and stages of life collaborate, learn and share experiences with one another.
In the workplace, it often means employees from several generations working side by side, with younger and older people contributing their different skills and perspectives. The goal is to make the most of everyone’s strengths. Done well, intergenerational working helps build mutual respect, reduces stereotypes about age and creates stronger, more innovative teams.
At the CIPD Trust we are working to create more inclusive workplaces. We provide mentoring, guidance and support to people of all ages and at all stages, supporting them to find and succeed in the workplace. In order to create systematic change we also work with people professionals and employers educating them on how to ensure that their workplaces are as inclusive as possible, sharing best practice and learning from organisations which have embraced innovative intergenerational working practices.
If you are interested in mentoring on one of our programmes, or are an organisation interested in partnering with us in this space, we’d love to hear from you.
Are you looking to return to work? We can support you.
Are you looking to get back into work after time out and finding the process daunting? Our Bridging the Gap programme provides practical advice and encouragement by matching you with a HR professional who will mentor and support you to get back into work.
